Lord Elrond
Lord Elrond is by far the most memorable elven lord of the entire trilogy. Even though his role is not very large, he plays a crucial part in both the movies and books. He was born in the year 525 of the First Age. His mother, Elwing, is the daughter of Dior, and through her he is akin to Elu Thingol, the first Sindarin King. His sire is Erendil the Mariner, and it is from his father that Elrond has Noldorin blood. Elros was his only sibling. He was born at the Havens of Sirion and was taken captive along with Elros when Fanor's sons attacked. They were released when Maglor took pity on them. Because both their parents were Half-Elves, Elrond and Elros were given the choice of choosing which race they wished to belong to. Elros chose to be of the race of Men, while Elrond chose to be counted from amongst the Elves. He dwelled in Lindon with Gil-galad, the last High King of the Noldor. When Sauron invaded Eregion, Gil-galad sent Elrond to aid Eregion. Unfortunately, it was laid to waste, and so Elrond took with him what survivors he could find and founded Imladris (known as Rivendell in the Common Speech) in they year 1697 of the Second Age. Gil-galad gave to Elrond Vilya, the Blue Ring, the Ring of Air, and it is partly because of this that Imladris prospered. Between 3429 and 3441 of the Second Age Elrond was Gil-galad's herald and fought with him alongside Elendil in the War of the Last Alliance. He wedded Celebran, the daughter of Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel, rulers of Lothlrien, in the year 109 of the Third Age. He remained in Middle-earth when she passed over the Sea in the year 2510. She bore him his twin sons Elladan and Elrohir in the year 130 and his only daughter, Arwen, in the year 241. Elrond was a leader of the White Council in the Third Age. When Bilbo was travelling with the Dwarves who were intent on destroying Smaug the Dragon and regaining their possessions, they were the guests of Elrond. Fifty years later Elrond housed Frodo and his companions and held the famed Council of Elrond, where the Fellowship of the Ring was formed. Elrond did not, unlike the final movie, deliver Andril to Aragorn, in the books. Elrond dwelled in Imladris until the day he passed over the Sea into the West with the other Ringbearers on September 29th, the year 3021 of the Third Age. He was known also as Master Elrond, Lord Elrond, and Elrond the Half-elven.

His description in
The Fellowship of the Rings book is: "The face of Elrond was ageless, neither old nor young, though in it was written the memory of many things both glad and sorrowful. His hair was dark as the shadows of twilight, and upon it was set a circlet of silver; his eyes were grey as a clear evening, and in them was a light like the light of stars. Venerable he seemed as a king crowned with many winters, and yet hale as a tried warrior in the fulness of his strength. He was the Lord of Rivendell and mighty among both Elves and Men."
