It is surprising how many people do not know that Arwen is not Lord Elrond's only child. But it should not be, as many people do not even know that The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is based off books, and does not come from Peter Jackson's own imagination. This is also due to the characters that were never shown in the movies, such as Arwen's identical twin brothers, named Elladan and Elrohir. They were born in Imladris (Rivendell) in the year 130 of the Third Age to Lord Elrond and Celebran, one hundred and eleven years before Arwen. Both had fair skin, gray eyes, dark hair, and were tall. When their mother was injured with a posioned Orc dart while travelling to see her parents (the Lord and Lady of Lrien), Elladan and Elrohir were able to rescue her and brought her back to Imladris, where her husband partly healed her wound. During the War, both twins came to Aragorn's aid with a host of Rangers from the North, as well as the standard Arwen had made for him. They rode on the Paths of the Dead and fought together at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, and they were both present at the Black Gate, where the War ended with the defeat of Sauron. The twins stayed in Imladris when their father sailed with the other Ring-bearers to Valinor, and were later joined by Celeborn. It is not known if they eventually sailed into the West or not. In the world of fanfiction, the twins are usually portrayed as being silly and full of pranks, but this is not always the case. |
