How can I say I love you,
then treat you as I do?
I only want to cherish you
but my ugliness bleeds through.

You'd think in half a century
I'd not be threatened as a man.
But my frequent temper tantrums,
are never what were planned.

I worry that I'll lose you,
so I search for just one sign,
That somehow you won't leave me,
and forever be just mine.

So in my quiet solitude,
where I visualize the worst,
I seek some sign you love me,
and for that I daily thirst.

With daily hopes of splendor
and awful thoughts of doubt,
My troubled soul feeds on these
but my thirst can't live without,

The love of my precious woman,
for whom I'd give my life.
Who already owns me wholly,
won't you someday become my wife?

Now the reason that you love me,
I may never understand.
But you have such an awesome gift,
To forgive this unworthy man!
