Chapter 88
The next day, Monday
It's lunch time so I leave the pharmacy and go to the hospital-restaurant.
"Hey Iris," I hear a woman's voice behind me. I turn around and see my gynecologist.
"Hi!"
"How are you doing?"
"Great!" I laugh and point at my belly.
"Yeah you can say that!" she says amazed. "Wait a sec. I'll buy lunch and than I'll join you. If you like," she suggests.
"Yeah sure. I'll save you a seat," I nod and look for a free table. A couple of minutes later she joins me.
"At how many weeks are you?" she asks me, looking at my belly.
"20. It's huge, isn't it?" I ask her.
"Hmmm. Yeah a bit bigger than I expected," she nods. "Is everything okay? Anything else unusual?" she asks.
I tell her about that I'm always hungry, that I gained much more weight than I expected, that I'm always tired.
"Anything else?" she asks friendly.
"Erm�" I say and start to blush.
"You can tell me anything," she smiles. I also tell her that my hormones have gone crazy� and that I'm always h*rny when I see or think of Duncan.
"Don't laugh," I say to her. She laughs anyway.
"I'm sorry. I've heard this many times, and everybody's embarrassed to say it. But you're not the only one, believe me! But� if sounds like for you it's a bit worse than for others. You want me to do a check-up?" she asks me.
"You think something's worn?" I ask alarmed.
"No, not wrong. But it sounds like you worry a lot. If an extra check-up can help, I'm happy to do it for you!"
"Thanks a lot! When do you have time for it?" I ask grateful.
"I don't know. Maybe I'll have some time this afternoon. I'll beep you, okay?"
"That would be great! So soon!" I smile happy.
"No problem!"
After lunch I go back to work. I ask my boss permission to go ways for an ultrasound if I get beeped. He says it's not a problem and immediately asks if something's wrong.
"Just a check-up," I smile.
I go back to work but I'm a bit nervous. When my beeper beeps, I jump up of fright. It's just an assistant with a question! I can feel my heart going much faster than normal though�
The next time my beeper beeps it's gynecology. I can come for an ultrasound right now! With shaking hands I go upstairs.
"Hi Iris," the gynecologist gives me a bright smile.
"Hi."
She immediately puts the jelly on my bump when I lie down. She's looking concentrated at the screen. I'm looking too.
I can see what she said is a heart last time. Huh? Did I see another one? I blink a couple of times. Now I only see one� I turn my head at the gynecologist and she starts to grin.
"Right what I thought!"
"What? Tell me!" I call out.
"I think you're gonna love this. You're gonna have twins!"
"What? OMG! I'm gonna have twins? I'm gonna have 2 babies?" I call out excited.
"Yes. And they're both looking healthy to me."
"How's that possible? Last time we only saw one," I say amazed.
"One was lying exactly in the front, the other one was right behind it."
"But we also only heard one heart!"
"That's also because one was in the front. We heard only that heartbeat, but you could hear one softer behind it. I listened to the old tape again and now I heard it," she smiles.
"It's great! But� it's not secretly gonna be more babies, is it? Only 2, right?" I ask.
"100% sure, twins!" she grins.
"It's so great! That's why I'm experiencing everything a bit heavier than normal pregnancy?" I ask.
"Yes. Let's see how big your belly is and how much weight you gained."
A couple of minutes later she confirms that for twins it's normal, the size and weight-gain.
"We'll make another appointment to discuss what changed. I don't think you'll remember anything I'm telling you right now," she grins.
"Thank you so much!"
I almost run out of the hospital and turn on my phone. I'm gonna call Dunk first.
"Hey!" he answers the phone happy.
"It's twins! Dunk, we're gonna have twins!" I shout excited.
He keeps quiet.
"Dunk?" I yell.
"Yes, yes I'm here."
Silence.
"We're gonna have 2 babies instead of 1 Dunk! Isn't it great?" I call out.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes of course!"
"Two babies?"
"Yes! Aren't you happy?"
"Yes I am� I'm just� amazed. It's great, it's fabulous."
"Yes it is!" I yell.
"It's fantastic!" Dunk now also calls out excited. "I can't believe it! It's wonderful! Wow!" he shouts.
I hear Lee at the background asking what's going on.
"It's twins!" Dunk shouts happy.
"What are you talking about?" Lee asks.
"It's twins! Twins!" Dunk calls out again.
I hear Lee taking the phone from Dunk. "Iris? What's going on? Dunk's jumping around and crying! And I don't understand a word from what he's saying," Lee talks very fast.
"I'm gonna have twins Lee! Two babies!" I tell him excited.
"Oh my� OMG! Dunk, you're gonna have 2 babies!" Lee calls out. "You're gonna get a baby girl for Dunk, and a baby boy fro yourself! I'm sure of that!" Lee yells at me.
"I'm gonna call my parents now. I'll call back later when Dunk has calmed down," I say laughing.
"Okay. Congratulations babe! I'm very happy for you. For both of you!" he says meaningful.
"Thanks Lee. Bye."
"Bye."
