CHAPTER 73

"A real rock-concert you say?" Lee asks. I nod.
"That can be only one band," Dunk points his finger in the air.
"Live," they both say at the same time.
I start to grin badly. "Yeah, it's Live. How did you know?"
"Come on, I'm not as stupid as you sometimes think! You've listened to that music loads of times!" Lee calls out.
"Really?" I grin. Lee gently punches my arm.
"Yeah. I even know your favorite songs by heart," Dunk nods hard.
"Hehe, than I bet you're the only ones from the UK who have ever heard of Live, or know their songs!" I can't stop grinning. I'm really excited about the concert! I've been a fan of them for like 10 years. They've made 7 cd's in 13 years, I've got all of them.
"Is this gonna be as bad as the Di-rect concert?" Dunk asks suspicious.
"Bad?? What do you mean?" I call out.
"Erm I don't mean Di-rect is bad, but there were sooo many screaming girls, that was bad!" he pulls a dirty face.
I burst out laughing. "No screaming girls! We are gonna be the youngest people there!"
"Screaming women?" Lee asks carefully.
"No! It's mostly guys. I wanna bet!" I shake my head, still laughing.
"Really? You've made me really curious now!" Lee says.
"So, what time are we going there? And how? And with who?" Dunk asks.
"We're taking the train and the underground, that's the easiest way. So we have to leave around 7pm. We're meeting the others there, because some are coming straight from their work."
"7pm? What time does it start?" Dunk says surprised. "Don't we have to be there early?"
"No. We've got seats, so we can arrive just before it starts. The support act starts at 8pm," I explain.
"Seats? To a rock concert?" Lee frowns.
"Yeah. It's way too heavy in the crowd in front of the stage. Imagine: hundreds of jumping men! I don't wanna risk being crushed!" I say with a dirty face and put my hand on my belly.
"Good point!" Dunk nods smiling.
"And from our places we can see everything much better. And don't worry, I won't sit down for a second!" I grin.
"So we're gonna have dinner at your place?" Dunk asks me.
"Huh? You've just finished your burger and you're thinking of dinner already? Honey, you're not pregnant!" I laugh and poke Dunk's belly.
He gives me a killing look.
"Ouch, if looks could kill! Ahem, yeah we're gonna have dinner at my place, unless you've got a better idea," I straighten my face.
"I asked, because I told you you should have a healthy dinner today," Dunk looks deep into my eyes.
"Okay daddy," I say with a childish voice. Lee starts to laugh.
"What makes you think I never eat healthy?" I ask Dunk, raising my eyebrows.
"What? I remember your dinner-habits from before you were pregnant. I usually cook dinner after I've worked all day, but you were like: 'I didn't have time to cook, so I had pizza' or 'I was too lazy to go to the supermarket, so I ate chips' or 'I didn't have time to go to the supermarket, so I had pasta with sausages' or 'I passed the Chinese restaurant after work, so I took Chinese food home'," he sums up.
"You forgot the 'I had to work early in the evening, so I only ate bread and soup'," Lee laughs. I feel my face getting red of shame.
"The way you say it makes it sound really bad," I whisper.
"Awww I didn't want to sound mean. I just want you to take good care of our baby," Dunk says smiling.
"I am! Only once a week I'm having pizza, or chips or whatever unhealthy. When I meet up with friends they cook for me, and when I'm too tired too cook for myself, than I have dinner at the hospital. They have a very good kitchen, I eat loads of vegetables and potatoes or rice every day! I even have milk or yoghurt at least twice a day. And I try to eat fruit instead of cookies or snacks whenever I'm hungry!" I call out. I don't know if I'm angry or sad, but I can feel the tears burning in my eyes. I get up from my seat and almost run out of the Burger King.
How can Dunk be so unfair! Of course I take good care of our baby! What does he think I am? Some little girl that can't take care of herself? Some irresponsible kid? I hear Dunk running behind me and walk faster. He takes my arm and forces me to stop.
"Iris!"
"Let go off me! Leave me alone!" I call out and slap him. He's so shocked he lets me go.
I go to the busstop to take a bus home. Luckily I only have to wait a few minutes. When I get in the bus I can feel someone's following me. It's Lee. He doesn't talk to me, he sits down somewhere near where he can see me. That's typically Lee: not forcing me to talk, just being close in case I need him. I still feel like crying. But I'm not gonna cry in public! I don't even know why I'm so upset
When I get out of the bus, Lee walks next to me. I walk faster and faster, I need to get home! I need a safe place, without staring people. I feel the first tear roll down my cheek. When I try to unlock the door, I let the keys slip from my hand. I sit down on the floor and bury my face in my hands. I can't stop the tears anymore. Lee takes the keys and unlocks the door. He lifts me up and carries me inside. He sits down on the couch, I silently cry on his shoulder.
"You work way too hard babe. And the nerves and excitement for the ultrasound didn't do you good either. All you need is to get some good sleep," he whispers in my ear. He puts me in bed and pulls a blanket over me. He gives me a soft kiss and strokes my hair until I fall asleep.
