I wake up from the phone ringing. I give Lee a push but he turns around and puts the pillow over his head.
"Hello?" I pick up the phone.
"It's me," I hear Dunk's sad voice.
"Hi. Anything wrong?" I ask.
"Erm� I need to talk to you."
"Oww. Now? I just woke up," I say sleepy.
"Yes please! Can you come to my house?"
"What time is it anyway?"
"Five am. But I know that you're taking a flight back home in a few hours, that's why I'm calling so early."
"Oww. Okay, I'll come to you," I say and hang up the phone. I'm a bit annoyed that he calls me so early, he knows I'm never in a good mood in the morning!
I ring Dunk's doorbell and he immediately opens the door.
"Hi," he smiles at me with red eyes.
"Hi. What's wrong?" I ask and give him a short hug. He takes me to the living room and sits down close to me, taking my hands.
"Iris, I love you! I can't stand seeing you with Lee! Even if he's my best friend! You can't stay with him, you have to come back to me!"
I'm deeply shocked by his words! "Dunk!" I call out. "You can't ask that from me! It's over between us!"
"Forget the past! We can make a whole new start!" he begs and squeezes my hands tightly.
"I'm with Lee! I'm in love with Lee!" I say and try to take my hands away from him.
"You're not in love with Lee! You just think that, because he's in love with you! You're still in love with me!" he yells.
"Dunk let go off me! I'm not in love with you! You hear me? I'm in love with Lee!" I yell back. He doesn't want to let me go, but I manage to free myself.
"You belong to me! Deep in your heart you know it!" he yells crying.
"No! I thought we could stay friends, you were being really supportive! But if you're acting like this, I can't see you anymore. I don't wanna see you again!" I yell back angry.
I run out of the house. Dunk's yelling things behind me, but I don't wanna hear it.
"Where have you been?" is the first thing Lee says to me.
"At Dunk's place."
"What? You thought I wouldn't wake up, isn't it? Sneaking off in the middle of the night. Didn't it occur to you that I would be worried to death when I couldn't find you?" he yells at me.
Great! Exactly what I needed! I feel anger boiling up inside me, but I manage to stay calm. "This morning Dunk called. You didn't want to pick up the phone, remember? I didn't sneak off, I couldn't tell you because you didn't want to wake up. And Dunk called so early because he knows I have to go home this morning."
"Bullsh*t! You sneaked off to be with Dunk for a night! What did you do with him? Eh? I know he still loves you!"
Now I'm angry! I was gonna tell him everything, but I won't when he's got this temper! "Lee! I didn't do anything with Dunk! I'm not in love with him!" I call back.
He yells more crap at me, but I don't wanna listen to it. I go upstairs to get my bag.
When I get back downstairs Lee's standing there quietly, looking really angry at me. I walk past him and without a word I leave the house.
God! What happened here? I really don't understand it! I'm glad I'm going home now, back to college, back to normal life with my friends�
That evening the doorbell rings. I open the door and see 2 policemen. They introduce themselves and I let them in.
"Please sit down miss." We all sit down.
"We're asked to bring you some bad news from the London Police."
OMG! All my friends in London flash through my mind.
"There has been a really big car accident at the end of this afternoon. Mr. Lee Ryan and Mr. Duncan James were involved in it."
Time stops.
Car accident? Lee? Dunk? Than it suddenly hits me what they said.
"No! Lee and Dunk? How are they now? Where are they? I have to go to them!" I scream and jump up.
"They both didn't survive. I'm really sorry."
Everything turns black for my eyes.
"They both didn't survive� they both didn't survive� they both didn't survive�" it keeps echoing in my head. Lee dead? Dunk dead? I see the policemen are talking to me. Their faces are moving, their hands are moving. There's no sound coming from their mouths.
"Car accident� Lee Ryan� Duncan James� involved� didn't survive� sorry�" the policeman's voice keeps repeating, echoing in my head.
He takes his phone and talks to someone. The echo is getting less strong.
"Car accident� Lee� Duncan� didn't survive�"
Through it the 2 questions keep popping up.
"Lee dead?"
"Dunk dead?"
Slowly something else comes through� I left them both in a fight� The last time I saw them, they had angry faces! The last time I heard them, they had angry voices!
The 2 policemen turn around, I follow their look. My parents come in.
I start to cry uncontrollable. My mum hugs me, rubs my back, strokes my hair.
"Iris!" she says.
"Iris!" she takes my shoulder and softly shakes it.
"Iris!" I hear a voice louder and louder.
"Iris!" The shaking on my shoulder gets stronger.
"Iris!"
