CHAPTER 49

As soon as the door's closed behind Dunk, Lee puts his arms around me from behind.
"You all right?" he whispers in my ear. I feel immediately tears building up behind my eyes. I take his hand and we sit down on the couch. I tell him everything about my talk with Dunk. When I'm finished I'm crying again. Lee holds me in his arms and softly strokes my hair.
Than suddenly the doorbell rings.
"Must be the pizza," Lee grins apologizing.
"That's good. I should stop crying finally anyway," I grin back. He gives me a kiss on my forehead and goes to answer the door.

That evening Lee and I talk and talk and talk. We talk about everything, but mostly about Dunk and us. We talk about the past, the present, the future. About what we feel, what we think. And finally we even talk about Kimmie. Last week she called in sick, she couldn't work with Dunk, because she felt too guilty. She only talked to Lee on the phone once. She said she was so terribly sorry about what happened. She said she'd quit the job if anybody wants her to. And she said that she would understand if I never want to see her again. Than she'll stay away from me.
I can't help it, I have to smile about it! I know her for a long time now, and I can picture her face in my mind, saying all this. But I can't talk to her yet, because I don't know how I'll react if she says this to me.
"I can't talk to her right now. But can you give her a message?" I ask Lee.
"Of course," he nods.
"She has to go back to work. I don't want her to quit, because she's a great singer. She has to put her feelings aside when she's at work. And tell her not to call me, I'll talk to her when I'm ready."
"I'll tell her."
We talk until deep in the night. When we finally go to bed, for the first time since a week my head's not full of thoughts. And for the first time I don't fall asleep crying

Saturday I wake up very late. It's about 2 am, I've slept really good. I take a long shower and dress myself. Downstairs I find Lee in the living room.
"Hey sleeping beauty," he grins and gives me a kiss on my cheek. I grin back at him.
"You look good today," he smiles.
"So do you."
"I always look good," he says with a cheeky smile.
"Yeah right," I say and slap his @ss.
"I can't believe you slept that long. I did some grocery shopping and cleaned the whole house before you woke up," he says when we go to the kitchen.
"Wooww, you're a busy house wife," I grin. "Did you buy anything nice to eat?" I say curious.
"Yeah. I got some fresh breads from the bakery," he nods. We sit down to eat them together.
"Can we invite Tia, Sy and Ant over for dinner?" I ask.
"Sure, that'd be great," he nods.

A couple of hours later they arrive. I tell them all about Dunk and me. They already talked to Dunk, but they say it's really good to hear the same things from me.
"Right. I'm gonna make dinner," Lee says and stands up.
"I'll help," Tia and I say and we follow Lee to the kitchen.
When dinner's almost ready I go to the living room to tell Sy and Ant. Just when I want to go into the living room I hear Sy saying something that makes me freeze right on the spot.
"Didn't you know that Lee's in love with Iris?"
My breath stops. "Don't listen, just walk into the room," it flashes through my mind. "But this is something important, I should listen," is my second thought. "But I'm not supposed to hear this!" Loads of thoughts flow through my mind.
In the time that I need to decide what to do, I hear them talking on.
"Yeah, I knew that he's in love with her now, I noticed that. But I didn't know he's always been in love with her," Ant answers Sy.
"I thought it was pretty obvious. He's been in love with her from the moment they met. Since we know her, he started to date less and less girls. Than he stopped. When he had a one-night-stand again, it was with a girl who looked a lot like Iris."
"Beatrice," Ant says.
"Yes. And the next time, it was the Dutch girl. And he switched her for her twin sister," Sy goes on.
"Who's called Iris," Ant fills in. "But he has been with Rebecca for a while," Ant protests.
"Yeah, that's true. But do you know why they broke up? I accidentally heard them fighting. Lee had been dreaming about Iris, and called her name in his sleep. And when they were fighting, Lee was drunk, and he even called Rebecca Iris," Sy tells.
"Are you serious?" Ant calls out.
"Yeah. So I wonder what's gonna happen now. Iris and Lee have always been close, but now they're even closer. I wonder how long it will take for Iris to realize that Lee's in love with her. Or maybe before that tie Lee will tell her he's in love with her if she and Dunk don't get together anymore."
"But I can't believe she and Dunk won't get back together. Oh, I really hope there won't come big troubles and fights of it" Ant sighs.
I'm paralyzed. I shouldn't have heard all this. But it's really clear to me, that Sy's totally right about Lee. No doubt about that. I take a deep breath and once again raise my hand to open the door.
"Dinner's ready," I say happily.
"Okay," they both nod.
"I'll be there in a minute," I say and quickly go to the bathroom.
OMG! OMG! OMG! Lee's in love with me! He's been hugging me all the time, kissing me, sleeping close to me. I thought we were just best friends, but all the time he was in love with me. My legs are shaking, so I sit down. This is unbelievable. What am I gonna do now? Tell him that I know? No!!! I'm gonna pretend I don't know it. But with every kiss, every hug I will think about it. No! I just have to stop thinking. I'm always thinking too much. All those times nothing happened between Lee and me, so now nothing will happen either. It doesn't matter that I know now. I will stay the same
