CHAPTER 109

The next day we can go home, with the babies. It's a big surprise for us, because we thought they would have to stay in the hospital longer, because they were born early. But the doctor said that they're big enough, so the James-family can go home together!
Dunk and I dressed Angel and Robin in their new, tiny clothes and put them in their maxicosies. We were told we can leave the hospital through an emergency exit, because the press and loads of photographers are waiting at the main entrance. Lee's waiting for us in his car, so we can drive off before anybody notices us. It's a big relief that we don't have to go past all those people with our twins! We don't want their pictures in the papers, at least not yet. And more important, these paparazzi are always so pushy, we might fall or they might crush us and the babies! The very thought of that sends a shiver down my spine!
"How are you today Iris?" Lee asks, looking at me in his mirror.
"I'm okay. Everything's still sore of course, but it's getting better!" I smile.
"Slept a bit last night?" he asks.
"Had to wake up to feed the babies a couple of times, but in between I slept really well," I nod.
"She slept like a rose," Dunk grins.
"And you didn't," Lee says to Dunk.
He pulls a funny face and shakes his head. "I had to change the nappies and get them back to sleep! They kept me up almost all night."
"Finally some justice! They've been keeping me awake for many weeks!" I laugh.
I was so happy when I was transferred to a room with enough space for a camp bed for Dunk!
Lee starts to laugh too, but Dunk just smiles. "I don't mind," he shrugs.
"Wait until they've kept you awake every night for 2 weeks! Than you do mind," Lee laughs.
"Than it's time for their godfather to spend some nights with them!" I call out.
"No problem. As long as you stay around," he nods.
"Of course! I don't see you breastfeeding them yet!" I burst out laughing. Lee and Dunk are laughing loudly too, waking the babies up. They both look around with big eyes, trying to find out where all that funny noise is coming from.
When we arrive home, we see that there are also reporters waiting in front of our house!
"Relax Iris, there's just a few of them!" Lee turns around at me.
"You go ahead and unlock the door, than I'll take Angel and Lee will take Robin inside," Dunk says to me. With cameras flashing in our faces we go to the front door. I turn around and see that Dunk and Lee are both bend over the babies to protect them, but they start to cry loudly anyway.
Inside I quickly take Robin in my arms to make him stop crying and Dunk takes Angel. Lee opens the door to the living room for us and we get in.
"SURPRISE!"
My parents, Mum, the guys, Patty and Tia are all here!
"Welcome home!" they all congratulate and kiss us. As soon as Angel and Robin have stopped crying, everybody holds them for a while. There is a big pie with the babies' names on it, and loads of presents!
"Wow, this is a big surprise! Thanks so much!" I can't stop smiling. After Dunk and I have unwrapped all the fabulous presents, we cut the pie.
"I thought you could stop eating so much now," Sy says surprised when I take a second piece of pie.
"Are you kidding? She still has to feed those two!" Dunk calls out, pointing at the twins.
"Speaking of feeding" I say, registering that they started crying again a couple of minutes ago, and they don't stop, no matter who's holding them.
"Time to feed them," Dunk nods, checking his watch.
"Hey, where are you going?" Lee calls out when I take a loudly crying Angel from his arms.
"She needs to be fed and after that she's going to sleep," I answer.
"Do we have to leave?" Sy asks concerned, looking at Robin's screwed up face.
"No, no, stay. We'll go upstairs," I smile.
"Why? Are you afraid we'll see your boobs?" Lee grins cheeky.
"Patty, you need to teach your man some manners," I turn at her.
"I tried, but he's hopeless," she grins.
"Well, if all fails you know what to do. You heard him, he wants to see some boobs," Dunk winks. Everybody bursts out laughing and Dunk and I quickly leave the room with the hungry, tired twins.
In the baby room I sit down with Angel to feed her. Dunk walks around, trying to calm down Robin. After a couple of minutes Angel finally starts to drink and I give a sigh of relief when I see her little face relax.
"You okay babe?" Dunk asks concerned.
"Yeah. It's just not as easy as it seems to make her drink, especially when she's so upset," I say, checking if she's drinking properly.
"Well, that's no wonder! They're only one day old, and you're a one-day-old mother! In a couple of days it will easier, trust me," he smiles and sits down next to me. Robin has calmed down too now that Angel's quiet.
When Angel's had enough, Dunk changes her nappy and I feed Robin. After that Dunk changes his nappy too and we put them both in their cots, softly rocking them back and forward.
"Ooh what's that?" I call out surprised. A whole bunch of fairies is hanging above the cots.
"Must be Lee's present! He mentioned something about it last night!" Dunk smiles and admires the blue, purple, white and yellowish fairies.
"Oh look, you can turn it on!" he whispers excited. The fairies start to move around, sparkling and shining their tiny wings. Beautiful, soft, soothing music is playing too.
"It's wonderful!" I say astonished. Dunk smiles and puts his arm around my shoulders, looking down at our beautiful babies. Within a minute the twins are asleep.
"I can hardly believe they're ours! They're perfect!" I whisper.
"We're a real family now," he whispers in my hair and gives me a sweet kiss.
We go back downstairs to the party, but in less than an hour my eyes start to droop.
"When your babies take a nap in the afternoon, you're supposed to do the same," Fiona smiles at me.
"I know Mum. But we don't get a surprise party every day, and I didn't want to miss the fun," I say and manage to keep my eyes open for a couple of minutes to kiss everybody goodbye.
When the last one, Lee of course, has left I go to bed for a long good sleep.
