| A neat single set, but this one unlike most of the others requires you to listen to the tracks on there a few times to let them grow on you. However after a few listens I really started to like the songs. Just The Way Im Feeling I liked from the start. Its the opening track on the Comfort In Sound album and is a neat power-ballad which anyone can relate to, just like all the other songs on the album. It starts off with an acoustic guitar-solo before the drums and bass join in, which is bound to get goose-pimples on many people when all this is heard live!. The studio version is brilliant, but you must hear it live. This is deemed by many fans as one of Feeders best songs ever, and it shows. Broken is one of those tracks that shows the mellower side to Feeders music, and this one has the added sound of a keyboard doing piano effects alongside it. The song is pretty good, but isnt the best of the b-side bunch. The cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywoods #1 hit from 1984 The Power Of Love, is once again one of those moments in which the cover betters the original. Many fans may have already heard this before the single release, as it was included on the NME War Child compilation when Comfort In Sound was released. It can be compared to Paperfaces, and all-in-all is made to sound like Feeders own song. Redemption is a neat slow-paced experimental track, with distorted vocals and does take a while to get into to allow it to grow on you, but once thats done you can really absorb into the song. Whilst the acoustic Child In You isnt the whole band this time, just Grant- but the sound of it gives a rather haunting and spine-tingling effect- very much like Elegy. The video on the DVD is of Reading 2002. It shows various clips from the show, and behind the scenes before theyre due on stage, and makes me feel really proud to have been at that gig every time I watch it. The documentary is filmed in black and white, but I would have preferred colour. As in one scene Grant signs a black shiny piece of paper, and shows his autograph to the camera saying you can just make it out or something along those lines!. The thing is though, since it isnt in colour it makes it harder to see!. But I like the documentary and will give it 9/10!. This single was supposed to be released on the 6th of January 2003, but a pressing error at the pressing plant, caused all copies of CD1 to have technical glitches all over them which made Echo send them back and therefore delay the release of the single to the following week. This meant we were releasing a single the same week as Busted and then Fame Academy winner David Sneddon. Nethertheless, it made #4 in the midweek chart only to drop to #10 at the end of the week after being #8 on Thursday and #9 on Friday. If it was released on it's planned date then it would have been top 5 in my opinion. Even though, the pressing plant error could not stop it being Feeder's longest running chart single- it clocked up 8 weeks on the top 75 beating the 7 week run of "Just A Day", but the sales of that single have still yet to be beaten. The pressing error, also allowed Feeder to do a signing of the single at HMV Oxford Street, which preceeded an acoustic "Feeder Unplugged" set. All 1,300 copies stocked were all sold and signed the same day!, which prolly describes the reason of the high midweek chart entry, and quite the big drop at the end. In 1996, Feeder got banned from HMV after CD stands fell over during an in-store, lucklily it didn't happen here despite loads of moshing going on near the stands!. |
