| One of the two singles I bought the day before I seen Feeder for the first time!. Weeks before I was to leave for Leeds, I seen the video for this on TV quite a few times, and loved it just as much as the song!. (see the "promo videos" section for my commentary on this) The song itself is a heavy guitar driven track, with power-pop elements filled in, the song is about holiday romances but talks about them in comical and original innovative ways!, which is used quite a few times on the "Echo Park" album. "Just A Day" is definetly a song everybody deservingly heard after it was eventually released as a single at the end of the year, and shouldn't have been hidden away as a b-side in the first place. It's a high-octane mosh-pit power-pop track, that should give you a massive grin on your face. The lyrics are actually rather emotionally moving- it's about getting drunk and screwing up a relationship in the process!. "Home For Summer" is definetly a tearjerker. After Jon Lee died many fans seen this as one of the most significant tracks that can be put to him as a tribute, and Feederwebber James Mackenzie recorded his own version of it as well :-). The song is an acoustic affair, which is sung softly and really works well. This wouldn't sound out of place on "Comfort In Sound" both muscially and lyrically. "Reminders" sees Feeder go all dirty-riffs mode with a heavy-bassline packed track. It's a great jump-up-and-down tune, and also has nice little-slow bits in there, before the guitars and drums charge back up again!. Whilst "Forever Glow", is a neat breeze-along acoustic strum fest, which I like quite a lot. Everytime I hear these CD's, I always think back to the Leeds Met uni gig and took the CD's home with me on a 9 hour journey back to Hastings!. |

| When this was announced as the next single from "Echo Park", I wasn't suprised because it's a great song, but with hindsight I think "We Can't Rewind" should have been instead. Grant himself said he wanted it to be a single, but Echo insisted "Turn" should be. "Turn" sees the darker side of the band, with a slow paced bassline and a neat guitar solo that gets spines tingleing near the end when the guys perform this one live!. "Come Back Around", is not be confused with the single that was released in 2002, but is a totally different song altogether. It once again continues on the dark mood portrayed on "Turn" but employs a lot more heavy riffs and is a rather good track. "Bring It Home" is a little more laid back than the other two tracks on CD1, and is a slow-paced tearjerker which is very effective in it's sound and feel. "Bad Hair Day" isn't really about the lyrics, as Grant only says "BAD HAIR DAY!!" so many times near the end of this two minute epic. It's a really raw track that's bound to bring out a few dosages of good feelings like it does for me quite a few times whenever I hear it!. The interview, which also plays as an audio including a video on your PC, by the name of "The Making Of Echo Park" is quite entertaining and interesting, with quite a bit of neat humour thrown in, but can get a little boring as you don't exactly get to see what most "making of........." things show you, which is usually behind the scenes of the production- ie- Feeder in the recording studio. But after all this is a 3.99 CD, so it's pretty good regarding the fact it's on a single. There was going to be documentary footage on "Echo Park", as mentioned in a poster advertisment. However Grant didn't like it very much and it was discarded. It could have been this one. "San Diego" is the first track since 1999 to be hidden away on a casette single, and is once again wrongly hidden as it's a great song. It's a brilliant slice of Feeder power-pop with a feel-good sound to it, which was the main theme and idea to Feeder's music during that year. It is available as a download from the fan-site "Crashmat" which is linked from here and many other sites including the official site Feederweb. |
