MY FEEDER GIG DEBUT
LEEDS MET UNI 5/4/01
In March 2000, I wrote into The Void on Teletext, in an attempt to find anyone who has loads of Feeder stuff, like CDs, videos etc. A day later I got an e-mail from a girl named Laura Crosland, and said Feeder are her favourite all-time band and none of her mates like them!.

We copied Feeder stuff for each other, and became good friends over the internet. We decided to meet up one day and in early 2001 she found out that Feeder were playing at the Met Uni in Leeds on April 5th, and decided that we should meet up in the city and go to the gig.

I then sorted out a pricey 34 quid coach trip to Dyer Street Station, and Laura offered to buy my ticket for the gig. I really wanted to see Feeder live for the first time in my life, and this was it- money didnt matter.

Her mate Dan, who goes to the Met Uni in Leeds let me use his room to stay in over the 2 days, as Lauras parents werent too keen on me staying at theirs!.

Anyway, the day before the gig I went to bed early and sent Laura a picture of myself, so she would know who to look for at the coach station. When I arrived there after a 12 hour journey plus waiting time!, I looked for Laura who said she would be reading a Harry Potter book. When she seen me and knew it was me, she gave me a big hug! hehe!.

We went around the city to HMV to look for some older Feeder singles. I bought the copy of Crash Orange Edition, and then went to Virgin to buy CD1 and CD2 of Seven Days In The Sun which was out that week, and so was definitely due to be on their setlist.

Later on in the day we went to Dans room, and went to the student union bar.

Laura and myself played on the pool table, and then talked about Feeder and Terrorvision- a local band around there who have now disbanded. She then told me about Feeders gigs, and Dan told me what the union building at Leeds Uni was like, which was where Feeder would be playing the day after.

At 12:00am and a few pints, we said goodnight to Laura, and I went back with Dan to his room and talked about different kinds of music we liked as well as uni life, before deciding to go to bed. I slept on an inflatable dinghy that he used to go to the beach with! lol.

The day after, he had a lecture and said I could play anything on his CD player!. I played the Feeder CD's I bought the day before and loved the tracks on all of them!. Especially Undivided and Just A Day. Soon later I thought to play the Blink 182 album Cheshire Cat, as Ive never heard it- not a bad album but the production is rather shoddy, as they didnt have loads of money back then!.

Soon later, after getting a phone call from Laura, I went off to the city and walked off to the bus stop where shed be with Steph. Laura drives her mothers car, and so getting to the gig wouldnt be hard!. We met up and went around the town, getting to know Steph whos a goth! hehe!, but was still seeing Feeder with us that night alongside two other friends of Lauras.

We went to the Students Union bar, where we had a coffee and watched the stage guys set up the main hall-room for the night ahead. We stole a poster off this wall and tried to get it signed, but the stage guys said the band were doing a TV show in London. Laura let me have the poster as a souvenir.

At 5:00pm, I got the bus back to the uni after meeting up with Dan, as Laura went back home to prepare for the night ahead. Here, things were ready to get going!.

An hour later at 6:00pm, we were ready for the off, and made our way onto the bus to the Met Uni bar. Dan and I decided to go to this pub not far from the uni, and then at 6:30pm we went over to the Leeds Met car park to wait for Laura and her mates, in which on the way we got disturbed by people asking if we need tickets, and then a tramp asking for fags or money. This was finally ended by Steph shouting at the guy saying Youve already asked us twice!. Laura and her two other mates turned up in her car, and we spoke for a good length of time in the Leeds Met bar about what were up to, and if this is the first time seeing Feeder.

At this time I seen loads of people wearing Feeder tees, and wanted one myself!. Laura had to go to the toilet and on the way back she said theyre selling tee-shirts!. I bought myself this Feeder tee which was blue with yellow block writing on, it still hasnt had a wash to this day let alone spilt anything on it etc. I went to the toilets to get changed in there, and then at 7:30pm, we went to the mosh-pit!.

After 15 minutes support band My Vitriol took to the stage, I thought they were pretty good but not the best in the world. Theyve also only released one album and should be doing another one soon.

At 8:30 however, Feeder started to take to the stage and went firstly into an amazing rendition of Insomnia, I myself was blown away by their energetic live sound in which they blasted at full pelt, and sounded so unique. I enjoy listening to them on record, but when theyre live it takes their music to another level, which is what My Vitriol were sort of missing in their performance.
