Purpose: The purpose of the following article presentation is to share with my colleagues at the Senior Seminar Class 2009 (Florida International University), a new surgical procedure which is widely developing in the world since the initiation of the 21st Century. This method will change society's perspective upon major surgeries procedures and the surgeon's capabilities as well.
Overview: Since the era of early surgical procedures where "induced bleeding" was an effective method in the 17th Century, surgeons have learnt different methods throughout the years in medical history to deal with body failures, trauma and deseases. Today, after spending a great number of decades practicing extremely invasive surgeries, there is a new method to enhance major surgeries under minimally invasive procedures provided by "The da Vinci Surgery System".
Abstract: The introduction of laparoscopy in surgery offered clear advantages to patients. Surgeons, however, had to deal with various types of problems inherent to essential differences in surgical approach. One of these problems, reduced dexterity, was solved at the end of the previous decade by the introduction of robotic surgery systems. Discusses the backgrounds for development of the Intuitive Surgical "Da Vinci" systems and gives an overview of current status and functionality.
