Dictionary
Veteran Flight corps personnel use certain slang unique to the Flight Corps. This can be daunting to new personnel. The Dictionary provided will help you settle in.
| Slang Word | Meaning |
| Kill your engines/Cut your engines | Shut off your Engines completely. |
| The Brass | High ranking officers, usually of the rank of Commodore or above |
| Sortie/Sorty | A mission. Usually an attack on a planet rather than a ship. |
| Burnout | When your Engines overheat |
| Bandit | Enemy craft, Usually a fighter. |
| Use of Clock times to represent directions | Pilots use clock times to represent directions. i.e. straight ahead would be 1200 hours. Behind you would be 600 while to your right would be 300. |
| On your tail | Behind you, pursuing. |
| Tin can | Slang name for the TIFH (Tactical Interface Flight Headgear). It relates the TIFH to a primitive way of storing foods for years at a time. |
