Sabbats

What is a Sabbat?

Sabbats are special days for Pagans and belong in the Wheel Of the Year. There are 8 throughout the year and acknowledge the changing seasons. The Sabbats are as follows: (All dates are approximates and Southern Hemisphere)

Samhain

April 30th

A celebration of the dead. Samhain is when the Pagan year begins. On Samhain night the veil between this world and the world of the dead is at it's thinnest and therefore a great time to reconnect with family and friends who have passed on. We honour those who have gone before us. We are aware that the Sun God is dying and the nights are getting longer. Samhain is also known as Halloween in the US. A time to reflect on the past year.

Winter Solstice

June 21st

This is the shortest day and longest night of the year (ICK). We celebrate the birth of the Sun God and he will grow in strength and soon everything around that has died will return (Hooray).

Imbolc

August 2nd

Imbolc is a fire festival and celebrates the returning of life all around us.

Spring Equinox

September 21st

Day and night hours are equal. We celebrate as the daylight hours will increase and the weather will become much nicer.

Beltane

October 31st

Beltane is all about fertility! This is the time that the God impregnates the Goddess and Summer is almost here! Think May poles, Bonfires and re-enacting the union of the lord and Lady ;)

Summer Solstice

December 21st

The longest day of the year. Summer is finally here at last.

Lammas

February 2nd

Lammas is the harvest festival celebrating the first harvest. It commemorates the sacrifice and death of the  Corn God. Think Thanks Giving and bread.

Autumn Equinox

March 21st

We thank the Goddess and God for providing to us throughout the year.
