Lovely Night with Fireworks
by Empath no Tenshi
"Hisoka~~~~!"
"Nanda?"
"Come with us tomorrow night! We'll be watching fireworks from the
rooftop. We'll
be having the New Year's Eve Party there too."
"."
"Please???"
"Oh alright."

It was a very cold winter morning, a jade-eyed, sixteen-year-old-boy
was walking on his way to the office building of EnmaCho, when his
partner's voice called after him.
Tsuzuki: "Hisoka! Oh goody. I caught up with you. so it means I'm not late,
ne?"
Hisoka: "Hmph. That's a miracle. What, is tomorrow the end of the world or
something?"
Tsuzuki: "How mean! I'm not always late."
Hisoka: "Well if you don't consider everyday as always. then I guess not."
Tsuzuki: "I'm NOT!!! Anyway, it's not the end of the world, but it
certainly will be the
end of another year."
Hisoka fixes his gaze at the faraway sakura tree. He looks pensive.
Hisoka: "Ah. So much has happened this year. I hope next year will be a lot
better."
Tsuzuki: "Right! Don't worry, for my New Year's resolution, I won't be late
anymore."
Hisoka: "Oh really? Then let me test you. how many times did you make that
your New
Year's resolution?"
Tsuzuki counts in his fingers then stops. He smiles and tells Hisoka
proudly of how many times he has made this his resolution.
Tsuzuki: "For the past seventy years!"
Hisoka: "I see. In other words, since you started working, or more or less
like that. Then
tell me. how many times did it come true?"
That question did the trick. Tsuzuki froze in the spot and was
speechless for a moment.
Tsuzuki: "E. hehe. never?" *guilty smile*
Hisoka sighed. and walked into the halls of EnmaCho with the one
person he'll be stuck with forever- his partner.

At the office.
"Ne, ne, Tsuzuki-san! Kurosaki-kun!"
It was Wakaba. she was holding a pile of objects that reached up to
her chin.
Wakaba: "You're coming tonight right?"
Tsuzuki: "Un! We both are!" *he said beaming*
Wakaba: "Oh goodie! See, I'll be in charge of the food tonight, so I'll
have to know more or
less how many people are coming so there'll be enough food
for everyone."
"Hmph. If he's coming, you'll have to prepare food for a hundred more
people."
Tsuzuki: "Terazuma."
Terazuma: "Tsuzuki."
Will-o-wisps start flying around while these two are looking daggers
at each other. Wakaba and Hisoka at the background look at each other and
sigh heavily.
Wakaba: "They'll never change, will they?"
Hisoka: "They're case is different. It's hopeless."
A certain secretary with eye glasses walking towards them has a very
dangerous look about him, enough to frighten anyone he'll pass by.
"Ahem!"
Tatsumi: "I sense trouble around here. Is there something wrong?"
Tsuzuki and Terazuma were just about to have their limit breaks,
release their shikigami, and blow up the offices around them (again) when
Tatsumi interrupted just in time. He looks like he could kill anyone any
moment from now.
Tsuzuki and Terazuma, who only knew too well that the wrath of this
man is something you'd rather die than face, stops their antics in a split
second.
Tsuzuki and Terazuma in chorus: "Iie. Nandemonai!"

The pair were working on their respective paper works (or at least
Hisoka was. Tsuzuki was probably scribbling nonsense on his- hehe ^_^ he
absolutely hates paper works). But they were suddenly disturbed when
someone walked into their office.
"Hey there Tsuzuki! How are you, bon?"
Hisoka: 'Frightened now. I was perfectly fine until you came in.'
"Yo!"
Tsuzuki: "Hey there Watari! So what you came to see us for?"
Watari: "Well, I came up with something new. Here! It's a. um. right! I
call it, the Flower
Growing Potion! I thought it would be useful in this weather.
It lets the flowers grow
even in winter!"
Tsuzuki: "Hontou??? Oh Watari, can I have some? It's lonely without flowers
at home. And I'm
sure Hisoka would like that too ne, Hisoka?"
Hisoka was near the door, apparently ready to run off. away from
Watari and his dangerous potions. He's had enough of being the most
unfortunate victim, and often being the without-meaning-to guinea pig.
Hisoka: "You guys want some coffee? I'll be more than happy to get some."
Just please. Let me out of here.
Tsuzuki: "But we just had some a while ago."
Hisoka: "It's. ah. cold. * that's right. Cold! * so I want something to
warm me up. If you
don't want some, I'll get one for myself."
Watari: "Well okay, but too much caffeine is not good for you bon. It
causes a person to
become nervous."
Hisoka: "Hai."
Hisoka stepped out of the room, glad to have escaped from the cruel
fate that awaits inside if he remained even a second longer.

Later that afternoon, after finishing the rest of his paperwork for
the day, Hisoka strolled outside. He leaned on one of the sakura trees and
appreciated the solitude and silence that he so loved. However, like a
double-edged sword, it was also in these moments that memories of the past
painfully came back to him. His parents. his short life. and his experience
under the sakura grove, once when the moon was red as blood. He shivered,
both from his reminiscing, and from the cold wind that blew. His eyes were
shut.
Suddenly. he felt warmth all over him. He felt hands that wrapped a warm
coat around him. As he opened his eyes, it met beautiful amethyst ones.
Tsuzuki: "You shouldn't stay out here in this cold weather. You'll get
sick."
Hisoka: "Shut up. Leave me a. a. achoo!"
Tsuzuki: "You see? Come on, let's go inside. It's warm in there."
He felt strong arms around him, gently leading him towards the
building, and seating him in one of the sofas in the lounge. Tsuzuki
touched Hisoka's forehead and felt his temperature. 'There's a slight
fever.' Tsuzuki thought 'But it'll be gone with a little rest'. His
thoughts, his worry, and his care showered the empath with a soothing
feeling.
Tsuzuki: "Rest here for a while."

Some of the employees didn't go home anymore. They were busy
decorating the rooftop for tonight's party and others remained to help too.
Watari brought some of his inventions and equipment, to make the
preparation more convenient. Tatsumi was supervising the arrangement of the
decors, chairs and tables, as well as the use of electricity for the lights
*can't risk overspending*. Wakaba was the head chef, and Terazuma her
assistant. And as for Tsuzuki, after being thrown out of the kitchen by the
GuShoShin brothers (yep! They're here to help too!), he busied himself
instead by putting up some decors.
Tsuzuki was stepping on a short ladder as he placed the ornaments one
by one on the wall surrounding the windows. He reached his hand for the
decors below him without looking, but he can't reach it since he's already
too high up, and the decors were still on a table about two feet below him.
A hand got some of the decors and handed it to him.
"You should look when you're reaching for something."
Tsuzuki need not look to see who it was. He knew this quiet voice too
well. But all the same he happily turned to see him.
Tsuzuki: "Hisoka!"
They helped each other in putting up the rest of the ornaments. After
a few hours, they were done, as well as all of the preparations to be made
for their New Year's Eve party.

And so everyone celebrated the night with zeal and laughter. Some were
busy talking, and others were eating with very satisfied looks on their
faces. Tsuzuki went to back to the buffet table, to get food for who knows
how many times already, when he saw Wakaba and praised her for her cooking.
Tsuzuki: "Hey Wakaba-chan! The food's great! It's the first time Hisoka ate
something even if
he wasn't feeling well. He said it's really good."
Wakaba: "Really!? Wow! That's great. I'm glad that you guys like my
cooking."
Tsuzuki: "Yeah. You're a great cook Wakaba-chan!"
Wakaba: "Argatou, Tsuzuki-san. Well, I better get back to the kitchen."
And she strolled of with a smile still lingering on her genki face.

After they've eaten, everyone gathered for the countdown and to watch
the fireworks display.
Tsuzuki: "Ne, ne, Hisoka-chan. Did you know? They said that whoever you
spend the New
Year's Eve with, you'll be with that person forever. You
think it's true?"
Hisoka shrugged.
Hisoka: "I guess. After all, the baka I'm speaking to right now will be the
same, unchanging
baka for a partner I'll be stuck with for eternity."
At his words, Tsuzuki beamed like a child who received a birthday
present for the very first time in his life. The idea of being with his
partner forever gave him overwhelming happiness that nothing can counter.
not even the best sweets he has eaten before. After all, the best treat he
ever had was right here beside him. the rarest and sweetest of all.
They began the countdown.
"Ten."
"Nine."
"Eight."
"Seven."
"Six."
"Five."
"Four."
"Three."
"Two."
"ONE!!!!!!"
"Happy New Year Everybody!!!!!" they all yelled spontaneously.
As they watched the fireworks, everyone admired how the colors changed
from one to the other. It was a marvelous sight indeed. Tsuzuki stared at
his partner as those beautiful green eyes gazed at the evening sky
brightened with fireworks. He held the boy's slender hand and looked
straight into his eyes.
Tsuzuki: "Happy New Year. Hisoka."
Hisoka sleepily leaned to his partner and greeted him too.
Hisoka: "Happy New Year"
At that, Hisoka fell asleep in his partner's arms. As he closed his
eyes, he silently wished for a better year for all of them.
