01. If at all possible get ice cold water and a wet rag.
02. If the person has medication like xanax that they take have them to put it under their tongue, it will work alot faster, I was told this by my doctor.
03. Stay calm----DO NOT allow yourself to get upset.
04. "DO NOT" tell them to "just snap out of it."
05. "DO NOT" raise your voice at them.
06. Tell them you are with them and you will not leave them.
07. Talk to them in a calm and relaxed manor.
08. Have them to drink cold water and put a wet rag on their face or neck.
09. Have them to take slow breaths through their nose and out their mouth.
10. If they start to cry, tell them it is ok to cry (it is a very good release).
11. Assure them they are not going to die and this will soon pass and you will be with them.
12. If possible go into the bathroom, the less people around, the easier it will be. |

The feelings a person has when having a panic attack are terrifing and are physical. They are sweaty, hot, shakey, dizzy, feeling like their throat is closing up, vision gets hazy, feels like they can't breathe, chest gets tight, a numbness can come over part of their body, a feeling of losing it, losing control, the heart beats fast like it is going to beat out of their chest.
"NEVER SAY IT IS ALL IN YOUR HEAD" "NO ONE WANTS TO HAVE A PANIC ATTACK"
TO THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE PANIC ATTACKS IT IS GOOD TO TAKE A LITTLE KIT WITH YOU.
In it, have ice in a baggie, bottle of water, wet wash cloth and a small paper bag. Always have your meds with you if you are on meds.
I hope you find this information very helpful, it has helped me dearly, and letting others know what to do is very important, if they know then they will not feel hopeless. |
