| Everyday he walks in the park, and everyday he passes the statue of the beautiful lady. She was a gift to his country many years ago. Now time and the elements have taken their toll on her. Sometime, long ago, her forearm had broken off. No one remembers how or when. He has taken it upon himself to haul his ladder to the park and cleans the bird droppings from her shoulders. He wiped her breasts, even when they were not soiled. Her solid stone composition was lost to him. The more he saw her the softer she appeared to be. Imperceptively he was falling in love with her. One day, without thinking, while cleaning her shuolders he leaned over and placed a soft kiss on her stone cold lips. |
