This is the second page to my site.  Clever eh?
I'm a real film lover.  Any spare time (and cash) i have is often spent at the cinema.  Or pub.
Here, you can view my opinions on fourthcoming and new films out at the cinemas in the UK.  Hope they're useful!
The Sum of All Fears
America and terrorism are taboo subjects in the film world at the moment, with film-makers anxious not to inflame public's anger or sense of loss.   Sum Of All Fears is a film which deals with many subjects that Americans (and indeed most of the civilised world) take very seriously.  The plot of a stolen nuclear weapon on American soil is both frightning and believeble without being too over-the-top in the action.
Ben Affleck stars as CIA analyst Jack Ryan who is called upon to assist a Russian arms inspection with Morgan Freedman.  He discovers that three top-level weapon scientists have been hired by Neo-Nazis to constuct a Fission bomb, but struggles to prove this to President Fowler (James Cromwell) until it's too late.
What follows is a taught, intelligent thriller which really does keep you guessing whats going to happen next.
Affleck is adept at being the accidental hero, whilst Cromwell's performance as the President is pretty good too.
Add to that a couple of great little plot twists and a really, really big bang, and you have one of the best thrillers of the summer.
Starring: Ben Affleck, Morgan Freedman, James Cromwell, Liev Schrieber, Bridget Moynahan
Director: Phil Alden Robinson.

Anal probes. Thats all aliens are interested in doing according to one of the characters in this comedy horror from the makers of "Independence Day" and "Godzilla".
In the small town of Prosperity, Arizona, a toxic spillage causes spiders from the local Spider farm to grow really, really big and go on the rampage.  David Arquette and Kari Wuhrer are the inhabitants of the town who try to stop the hell-bent arachnids from eating the town alive.
The film on a whole is brilliantly fun.  Although it is billed as a Comedy-Horror, the comic aspects are definatley more apparant, with some slick one-liners and deadpan acting from the whole cast.  The pirate-radio station presenter provides some great lines and most of the laughs during the film.  Its scary without actually being truly scary, if that make any sense...
The story is utterly stupid and the characters are merely spider-fodder, but thats not the point!  The film has been produced to emulate the 50's B-movie genre, and it works a treat.  The SFX are great to watch and stylishly made, whilst the sound effects of the spiders are suprisingly funny too.
Aside from a slow opening 25-minutes, the film rolls along at a good pace with plenty of eye-candy to keep your attention.  The spider-infested town looks great and you can't fault the visual effects.
It may not be to everyones taste, but even if you don't like it, i guarantee it'll make you giggle.
Starring:   David Arquette, Kari Wuhrer, Doug.E.Doug, Scott Terra.

If you're planning on using the new Jubilee Line extension in London anytime soon, don't bother; for beneath the city streets a mythical creature lies dormant; waiting to once again wreak havoc on the unsuspecting world.
It's the year 2020.  The world has literally been burnt to ashes by the accidental release of a Dragon below London. The human species is in danger of being wiped out if the Dragons aren't stopped, but there are simply too many and too few people left to stop them.  for the people of England, life is getting very tough indeed.
All seems lost for them until a rogue US Army marine turns up proclaiming he's a dragon slayer and that he can defeat them.
What follows is a Mad Max-esque film with Dragons instead of marauding punks.
The plucky English community leader
Quinn is "American Physco"'s Christian Bale, whilst Matthew McConhaughy is the slightly mad marine Van-Zam.  Both play their parts well-enough with Bale really suiting his role as a simple man trying to survive against harsh, if slightly unbelieveble odds.
The story too is a good variaition on a time-old tradition of humans versus dragons.  The visuals are great to watch and the barren landscapes of the charred countryside are spectacular in their own right.  My only gripe is that the story doesn't flow as well as it could do and gets bogged down in the middle with a less-than substantial script.  Having said that, it's entertaining enough and worth watching for the scenes of London being torched.
Starring: Christian Bale, Matthew McConhaughy, Izzabella Scorupco, Alexander Siddig.
Directed by:  Rob Bowman
