The sky above Six Mile

was dark, gloomy and sad

before and after the Christmas parade.

The only show in town

proceeded as planned

and as it evolved and progressed

in a series of absurd images

I felt mildly depressed and unable

to change my sadness to anger.

The theme was God,

mixed with advertising

-for the local pet grooming store

-the local Christian school

-and the military branches.

The young recruits proudly marching

out of sync and out of beat

under the freezing drizzle

reminding us, that if all else fails

there will always be a place

in the killing business.

God approved.

My curiosity turned to boredom rather quickly

because it is all the same

and I have seen it many times.

But no matter how many times

this ridiculous spectacle,

has marched in front of my eyes

it always mesmerizes me

and makes me stare in amazement

at a world I never new existed

a world I wanted to be part of,

not knowing why.

The world of the crazy God.

On our way to the car

We walk in front a group of hunters,

proudly displaying a dead deer

lying at the back of their truck.

God and everyone else approved.

Our God in camouflage.
