Chapter One
Penny is Old-School
It was 1999 along the Atlantic Ocean. The RMS Titanic seemed
more like a Carnival cruise ship than a White Star Line ship.
Colonel Zeitel had lost the faded Discovery outfit and started
wearing surf gear. Right now he was wearing a Hurley sweatshirt
and Billabong board shorts.
“Glory be!” said Penny Pringle. “What is this? I woke up, and
everything was different!”
“It’s 1999, Penny!” said Eric Burns. “We are in modern times now!”
“1999? Isn’t that a song by Prince?” she remarked.
Eric rolled his eyes. “Well, yes, but that is also the current year.
Isn’t it wonderful?”
“Umm..I am not sure yet,” Penny said. She looked around the Boat
Deck. All the friends she knew were in modern clothes. The ship
was different, and she was the only original left. Penny looked
down at her clothes. The same pink dress as before. She glanced
at Eric Burns, who was wearing Nike gear. Nike?
“Hey, Penny! Wassup?” said Vlad Demonic.
“Get away from me, Vlad. You disgust me,” she replied.
“Alrighty then, if you’re gonna be that way,” Vlad told her.
“Anyway, you’re the one with the faded clothes.”
Penny thought she heard Eric and Stephanie Burns laughing.
“I happen to like my clothes, thank you very much,” Penny replied.
“Oh, OK. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot here,” he said. “I’ll
catch ya later, Pen.” He left to go chat with Colonel Zeitel.
“Pen? First I was Penny, now I’m Pen?” she wondered.
Penny walked towards the stern of the ship. She spotted Sasha
Barbicon..or so she thought it was. He was dressed like a mobster.
“Hello. Sasha, is that you?” Penny asked.
“Yea. How you doin’?” Sasha replied.
“OK,” Penny said, frowning.
Penny ran away from the Boat Deck, back to her cabin in F-34.
“What the hell is going on here?” she asked.
