ABOUT TORNADOES
Tornadoes occur in many parts of the world. These destructive storms are found most frequently in the U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains. Some tornadoes may form in the early stages of a quickly developing thunderstorm. They may appear nearly transparent until they pick up dust and debris. Waterspouts are weak tornadoes that form over warm water. They occasionally move inland and become tornadoes causing injuries and damage. Before thunderstorms develop, a change of wind direction and an increase in wind speed with height increase creates an invisible spinning effect. Tornadoes can occur at any time of the year. Some environmental clues are dark and often greenish sky, wall cloud, large hail, loud roar; similar to a freight train. If a tornado is coming in the direction of your house, you should move to your basement or pre-designed shelter. When in your basement, you should get under a sturdy piece of furniture, stay away fom windows, get out of your automobile, do not try to out run a tornado in your automobile. If you have a mobile home and even if it is tied down you should leave it immediately. Watch out for flying debris.
