| FC UNITED 5- 0 NELSON FC United's third 3000 plus crowd in a row saw the Reds lord it over Nelson in their top of the table battle. The opening exchanges showed two teams conceding little to each other as the tackles flew in, both sides attempting to take hold of the game. It was United however who made the breakthrough on 18 minutes, with Paul Mitten' making his first start for the club after a frustrating first two months of the season on the sidelines injured, curling a fine shot into the top corner from 25 yards. The game began to open up a lot more, Nelson's Michael Holt forcing a tremendous point blank save from United keeper Barrie George and Adie Orr hitting the post for the reds. It remained 1-0 until the 61st minute when Steve Spencer slotted home after a mix up in the Nelson defence. The second goal gave United the cushion they needed to express themselves more and within seven minutes they had scored two more, Adie Orr grabbing them both with Darren Lyons and Rory Patterson involved in both moves. Simon Carden made FC's second five goal haul in a week in the last minute of the game. He broke through from what looked like an offside position but the referee didn't blow and he sent a delightful chip over the despairing Hewitt in goal. |
