| CHEADLE 1- 5 FC UNITED ADIE Orr wrote his name into the FC United history books with the club's first hat-trick - in front of another sell-out crowd at the Tameside Stadium. But the striker, released by Manchester City as a teenager, admitted afterwards that he grew up a Blue! Orr produced three quality goals to sink battling Cheadle in front of another sell-out crowd to send the Rebels into the second round of the Moore and Co Solicitors League's Challenge Cup - where they will face first division high-flyers Colne. United manager Karl Marginson wants his team to play football, but the equaliser, on the stroke of half time, was route one. Kevin Elvin lifted a long ball to the edge of the area and when big striker Joz Mitten headed down, Orr darted between two defenders to thrash the ball home. That took some of the wind out of Cheadle and two goals in a minute in the second half settled it. Rory Patterson got the faintest of glancing headers to Darren Lyons' inswinging free kick on 64 minutes and then Orr calmly side-footed home. Simon Carden made it safe eight minutes from time by crashing in a half-volley. Orr completed the second half rout by lobbing Whittle with two minutes to go. The scoreline was tough on Cheadle, but chairman Chris Davies had the comfort of unprecedented gate receipts and now they have what he calls `a double whammy' as they face them in the league next month. "FC United are great for non-league football - this season division two will gain financially and then, presuming they get promoted, the first division will benefit next season," he said. |
