| FC UNITED 7-1 ECCLESHALL Another great turnout arrived on wednesday night at Gigg Lane to cheer on theit new heroes, and they didn't disappoint. Singing started from well before the first whistle and din't stop till walking out celebrating a superb victory. The attmosphere at these games just seems to grow and grow, as new songs are made and new faces learn them. The match itself saw United as weve grown to love streaming forward in attack leaving Eccleshall's defence baffled. No surprise that it took only six minutes before Joz Mitten's great cross found Mark Rawlinson leaving him to tap home for his first goal for the club. After a few saves by Barrie George from the occasional breakaway attack by Eccleshall, number two came from another superb freekick by Torpey, wraping it round the wall into the top corner. Just before half time United won a corner, which was crossed right in the middle of the six yard box where Rob Nugent was there to head home his first goal for the Reds. Half time and 3-0 to FC the best scoreline at an interval so far. More of the same was on offer in the second half despite Eccleshall making it 3-1 from a breakaway against the run of play. This only spurred the reds on for more, good work on either flank by Rory Patterson saw crosses to substitute Adie Orr converted for two close range goals giving him 4 for the season. In between those Mark Rawlinson also put away a close range effort for his second of the game. 6-1 and to be honest it could of been many more with plent of attempts going close and Joz Mittens header home wrongly being ruled out for offside. Another goal did come though through substitiute Ryan Gilligan who was in the clear and left with time to cooly put away and in off the post finish. A fantastic match which sent out a clear message to the rest of the league, 3 games played, 3 games won, 15 goals scored and top of the league!!! Winsford you are next ;-) |

| FC UNITED 3-2 PADIHAM A beautiful sunny day was the setting for FC Uniteds new begining at theyre new home, stark contrast to last weeks monsoon in staffordshire. The Manchester Road end of Gigg Lane seems to be the new Stretford End, as most fans decided to pile in there and start their 90 minutes of singing as weve done for the last few weeks. United kicked off the match in their usual bright attacking fashion going close with headers from Nugent and Joz Mitten, also with new signing Chadwick not afraid to get up there too. The first goal came when the lively Patterson was caught between two defenders in the box and bundled to the ground. He dispatched the penalty cool as you like chiping it down the middle of the goal into the roof of the net. Padiham who had been mostly defending hit back straight away, capitalising on some slack marking by the reds leaving Hill to slide in with the equaliser. United took the lead in some style just before half time. After some great work by Joz Mitten on the right he played it into Orr on the edge of the area who did a great turn to play the ball into Patterson who slotted it right in the bottom right corner. The second half saw more of the same from United and could been more goals with Coyne missing from close range and Joz Mitten having a few efforts go close. United put the game to bed when Adie Orr manged to prod home his second of the season after a bit of a scramble in the box. Padiham made the final score 3-2 when Chadwick stroked home in injury but nothing more than a consolation as United made it back to back wins and secured a top of the table place, all be it on goal difference. |

| NEW SIGNING | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Wednesday saw FC United complete the signing of central defender Dave Chadwick. Marginson made the move for Chadwick after his contract had been terminated by Unibond Premier side Prescott Cables. A keen admirer of Chadwick's ability from his time playing alongside him at Salford City Marginson is "delighted to have him on board". Chadwick was a valuable asset to Prescott and was their player of the season for the past two seasons, but he was so keen on the idea of playing for FC that he had to leave them behind. The new signing should make his debut on Saturday, just as FC United will be making their debut at new home Gigg Lane | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| LEEK CSOB 2-5 FC UNITED FC United's first competitive league game started in the way they hope to go on. A rain drenched Harrison Park looked very much as though there may not be any football played. But the game went ahead and what a game it was. United started positvely and got amongst Leek's defence early on, but it was Leek who broke the deadlock Colin Fletcher capitalising on a poor clearance by United. The reds didn't take long to reply though, possibly spurred on by the fans continued singing. Steve Spencer drilling in a shot into the bottom right hand corner from just outside the area to level the match. Within 10 minutes United had took the lead, Joz Mitten slotting home from close range after Leek's keeper fumbled. The lead didn't last too long though, Leek hit straight back, a long range effort by Jake Johnson that Barrie George got a hand to but not enough and it ended up in the top corner. So after an exiting competetive first half the teams went in drawing 2-2, not bad entertainment for 4! United came out for the second half much more composed and started to control the flow of the game. Shooting towards the end that had the majority of the United fans in, it was looking only a matter of time before United took the lead. They did when a ball broke just to the edge of the box and steve spencer lashed a shot in that took a bit of a deflection and ended up in the corner of the net for his second goal of the game. 4-2 came when a freekick was given central to goal about 10 yards from the area, which Steve Torpey duly dispatched into the bottom corner of the goal. As the end of the match neared United were tottally domminant having the run of Leek's half with Torpey sub Lyons and Patterson taking on Leek's defence. United capped of the scoring when substitute Adie Orr found himself with space in the penalty area and time to lift the ball over the keeper and into the roof of the net. A fantastic game trememndous attmosphere once again and a great way for the reds to kick off life in the Noth West Counties League. |

| FLIXTON 2-5 FC UNITED It was coming, and on tuesday night in the kind of place FCUM are gonna get used to it finnally came. The first goal in the clubs history and hopefully the first of many wins. Another great following somehow found their way to the little ground of Flixton's and were once again in fine voice a with plenty of banter. United kicked off the game as they were meaning to go on getting at Flixtons defence quickly, and within 10 minutes the deadlock was broken. The man who people are gonna remember is Steve Torpey, and what a first goal it was a 25 yard left footer lashed right across goal giving keeper swanson no chance! And Torpey wasn't waiting around to be on for his hatrick within about 5 minutes he'd duly slotted home number two from the penalty spot. Jonathan Mitten broke clear and thought he'd made it 3-0 only to be dubiouslly called offside. A mix up by keeper Priestley allowed Flixton an easy tap into an empty net before the break, but United came out of the blocks in the second half flying. Every loose ball, every tackle had the reds running there hearts out to make it, especially Torpey who was just giving his all till being subbed. United made it 3-1 when midfielder Steve Spencer headed home from close range and ended up in the back off the net too, and mobbed by the many ecstatic reds behind the goal. Adie Orr made it 4-1 when some dodgy Flixton defending left Adie with an easy finish for his first for the club. Flixton managed to pull another back through a cool finish by Chris Denham. The scoring was rounded up when a by then tired Flixton defence where at sixes and sevens leaving substitute Greg Randles an easy tap in. A fantastic performance by the lads and great show of how well they can do in their first season, bring on Leek CSOB!! and the NWCL2!! |
