We emphasize the following key components in learning to read:
Word Identification - using phonics skills and context clues to sound out and/or break down a word to identify it
Building Vocabulary - memorizing common words that are difficult to sound out, learning new words on a common topic
Fluency - reading at a steady pace so the words flow together to sound like normal speech
Comprehension - using strategies to remember, understand, analyze and apply what is read
