Sudwerk Rattles Hex

DAVIS, Calif., Sept. 28 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk broke its opening day hex Sunday, rallying back to draw 1-1 with Humboldt Grown in its first game of fall season.

Sudwerk managed to tie the game in the 79th minute on a powerful volley from J.B. Rudell, who slammed home a cross from Leon Shahinnian from 15 yards in front of goal.

Humboldt Grown scored midway throught he first half on a header off a corner kick. Although Humboldt Grown had the run of play, the red-and-black hung tough thanks to solid defense and great goalkeeping from J.C. Mark.

Sudwerk has a bad habit of starting seasons poorly. Prior to Sunday, the club's opening day record was 1-7.

"We're pleased to get off to a good start this fall by earning a point," said Ramal Werdna, the president and CEO of FC Sudwerk. "Now we'll look to build on that."

The club's next game is noon Sunday against Oldenfowl. ##
