Sudwerk Falls Short
in Summer Finale

DAVIS, Calif., Sept. 14, 2006 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk concluded a rocky summer season Thursday night by losing a spirited match against Tombstone 3-2 on an unlucky own goal.

Adam Bauer and walk-on Leo scored for the red-and-black, which played better than it has in recent weeks. Sudwerk had plenty of opportunities to score in an even game.

The winning goal came late in the second half when Sudwerk sweeper Juan Carlos attempted to head a ball clear of the box but inadvertently directed into his own net. It was a single stroke of bad luck for Carlos, who otherwise played an impeccable game anchoring the red-and-black's back line.

FC Sudwerk will take a one-week break before opening the fall season at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24. ##
