DAVIS, Calif., Sept. 12 -- FC Sudwerk rallied for four second-half goals to down Volantes 5-2 on Thursday night and improve to .500 for the fall season.

With the victory, the red-and-black moved to a 1-1 record and a plus-1 goal difference.

"We worked hard all game long and it paid off," said Ramal Werdna, the club president and CEO. "It was nice to see us outplay our opponents in every part of the field -- defense, midfield and offense."

John Acord, Sudwerk's star striker, led the way by scoring three goals. Forward Jeannine Henderson and midfielder Aaron Stephens netted the two others.

Down 2-1 at halftime, the red-and-black substituted two seasoned veterans to spark the comeback. David Raybould added stability to the back line while Andreas Agocs, returning after two months on injured reserve, enhanced Sudwerk's midfield attack.

All the while, defenders Patrick Chandler and Renae Wurschmidt and wingers Tammi Acord and Randi Field played outstanding defense, and rocket-fueled Stephens demonstrated his supreme range and endurance.

Goalie Joncarlo Mark also had a fine outing. Mark robbed Volantes of one sure goal by charging out of the net to sweep the ball off the feet of an onrushing attacker.

"Everything came together in the second half, and the team looked sharp," Werdna said.

Sudwerk's next match is 9 p.m. Wednesday against Arsenal, which beat the red-and-black 2-0 last summer in 100-degree weather.
