| Victory! (It Does Happen) DAVIS, Calif., Sept. 10 (AP) -- FC Sudwerk capped the summer season Wednesday night with a deserving 3-2 victory over Humboldt Grown. Midfielder Donn Cox scored the winner early in the second half, poking the ball into the net from the six-yard line after receiving a spectaclur low cross from winger Amy Toy. That put the red-and-black ahead 3-1. Humboldt Grown scored late in the game to make it close but could not equalize, thanks to outstanding goalkeeping by Joncarlo Mark. Sudwerk rallied back after giving up a goal in the first two minutes of the game and dominated much of the play. J.B. Rudell scored first for Sudwerk, after breaking free and outmaneuvering the goalie from the 18. Later in the first half, Leon Shahinian put the red-and-black ahead after collecting a pass from Toy, who had two crucial assists on the evening, just inside the penalty box. The club opens fall season on Sunday, Sept. 28. Kickoff time is 10 a.m.. ## |
