| Strong 2nd Half Keys Sudwerk Victory
DAVIS, Calif., Aug. 8, 2006 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk overcame a sluggish first half to score four goals after the hour mark and defeat Supernova 4-1 Tuesday night. The red-and-black, down 1-0 at half, drew level on a textbook cross by Adam Bauer from the right flank that found the head of Jeff Bennett at the six yard line. Bennett, an Oldenfowl regular and a walk-on for Sudwerk Tuesday, sent the ball into the right corner of the net in the 63rd minute. The goal came after Sudwerk applied continuous pressure and produced numerous scoring opportunites to open the second half. J.B. Rudell got the game winner in the 70th minute, when he ran onto a through ball delivered by Bauer and dribbled around the side of a charging goalie who dove unsuccessfully for the ball. Rudell neatly placed the ball into the left side of the net from a wide angle right of goal. Phil Pareas finished the red-and-black's scoring with two blistering shots through traffic in front of the goal. Sudwerk appeared to sleep walk through the first half, unable to maintain possession or string more than one or two passes together. But Bauer, who made long slashing runs down the right flank from his right back position, and Rudell sparked the Sudwerk attack after the break. Meanwhile, the red-and-black shut down the Supernova offense, with Renae Wurschmidt Owens and Glenn Bohan having especially strong games. Sudwerk's next match is against Penarol SC, 7 p.m. Tuesday at Play Fields. ## |
