| Stoners End FCS Streak DAVIS, Calif., Aug. 3 (AP) -- Humbold Grown scored two quick goals early in the second half to down FC Sudwerk 4-2 on Wednesday night and snap the red-and-black's two-game winning streak. Sudwerk scored in the 85th minute on an own goal to pull within two and make the final seconds of the match interesting but could not close the gap. The first half ended 1-1, after Humboldt Grown scored early on a bizarre goal in which a long, high ball bounced near the top of the box and over goalie Craig Dandurand's head into the net. Sudwerk equalized a few minutes later on a superb goal by midfielder Mel Meyer, who received a pass 25 yards in front of goal, turned and placed a beautiful shot in the upper left-hand corner. Early in the second half, the Stoners' speedster strikers broke through the red-and-black line twice in quick succession to score. Humboldt Grown added another midway through the second half. While Sudwerk attacked, it was able to get few shots on goal. Sudwerk's next match is 9 p.m. Tuesday against Short Grass. ## |
