FC Sudwerk Team Party
Draws A Crowd, Arrests

First of all, to all of you who could not be there on Saturday (Aug. 27, 2005) night at the inaugural FC Sudwerk barbeque, I wanted to let you know that the party went off! 300 people jammed into Adam Bauer spread in Mace Ranch with music and food; trust me, the energy was all-time.

Bauer roasted an entire pig, not to mention a rack of lamb, tender whole chickens and sirloin burgers.  But it gets better - he surprised everyone with an amazing sushi selection, an oyster bar, and a top-shelf selection of tequila for the most rowdy folks in attendance.  Of course, there was lots of Sudwerk lager to handle the die-hards beverage demands.

Imagine music blasting, foosballs flying off the tables and people taking rides on Adams chopper when Van Halen shows up! Apparently, Adam hooked up with David Lee Roth the week before on the way to Sturgess, where David was stuck with a blown tire in the middle of nowhere.  Bauer cruised up and quickly helped the guy by giving him a spare inner tube and getting him back on the road.

So appreciative of Bauers help, David Lee Roth, who recently moved to Davis, said he would do anything to thank him for getting him up and running.  Immediately, Adam thought of the FC Sudwerk BBQ and -- boom -- Van Halen drops in on Saturday night for a 10 song private concert!

Craig Dandarand, who is the hugest VH fan from his glory days at Claremont McKenna College (1979 -1985), got so excited that he leaped off the eight-foot speakers in Adams backyard (while the band was playing Jump) and both pulled his hammie and twisted his knee!  He was okay after a shot of Cuervo Gold and reassurance from the biker chick from Sparks, NV that he was okay.

Donn Cox, slightly intoxicated and literally foaming at the mouth when he met Eddie Van Halen, his hero while attending Spokane City College a couple of decades ago, launched into a tirade when the band was muzzled by the Davis PD.  Sorry, Donn, no yellow cards in Davis, CA and off to the Yolo County Jail he went.

We got him out the next morning and all the charges were dropped because Donn was able to buddy up with the night guard who was a huge W wacko just like Donn!  Well done, Donn, your right wing sentiments finally paid off in the most unlikely of places.  Thats what I call lady luck!

Needless to say, the crowd was quite interesting.  We had some of Adams closest friends and the FC Sudwerk crew.  A few neighbors showed up as well, a little disappointed with the loud music at first but quite content after meeting the band and chowing down some sashimi.  Davis residents are pretty easy to please.

All in all, we had a great time and no one got hurt.  We were able to help Adam clean up with a few of his buddies from the Harley Club and even recruited a couple of new players!   On the other hand, its a good thing that we didnt have a game on Sunday morning.

Thanks goes out to Andy for managing crowd control and especially Adam, who really knows how to put a party together! ##
