Sudwerk Victorious!

DAVIS, Calif., Aug. 23, 2007 (Reuters) -- Newcomer
Ben Tobias tallied two goals Thursday night to lead FC
Sudwerk to a convincing 4-2 win over Oldenfowl.

Sudwerk completely dominated the first half and fired countless crosses and shots through the Oldenfowl box, with speedy winger Megan Koren skillfully exploiting the right flank.

But despite its huge advantage in ball possession, the red-and-black gave up the first goal. It happened on a bizarre play in which a sliding clearance kick by keeper Andrew LaMar ricocheted off a blue-shirted attacker into the net.

Tobias got the equalizer for Sudwerk on a superb individual effort, dribbling into the left side of the box and slamming a shot into the right side of the goal.

In the second half, Oldenfowl stepped up its pressure and produced several dangerous opportunites, hitting the crossbar twice. Sudwerk, though, responded with goals from Scott Daugherty and captain Michael Campbell, who artfully dribbled through the right side of the box before rocketing a shot past the goalie from a wide angle 3 yards from the end line.

The blues pulled one back and turned the final 15 minutes into a tense affair until Tobias put the final nail in the coffin with his second goal in the 88th minute.

Way to go folks -- what a game! Sudwerk's next match is 9 p.m. Tuesday. See you there. ##
