Sudwerk Defeats DFC 2-1

DAVIS, Calif., Aug. 20, 2009 (Reuters) -- David Jagdeo scored twice Thursday night to lead FC Sudwerk over Davis Football Club 2-1.

Jagdeo delivered the game-winner in the 80th minute with a 25-yard blast after breaking through the blue-and-white's back line. DFC attacked relentless in the final minutes but could not get the equalizer.

Whenever Sudwerk and DFC square off, it's usually a great game -- the clubs drew 5-5 in their last meeting June 11 -- and Thursday night lived up to the billing. Both teams moved the ball well, attacked ferociously and dominated stretches.

The red-and-black benefited from a deep bench and a long pre-game warmup prompted by an early ending to the previous match when referees stepped in to prevent a brawl. DFC and Sudwerk traded goals in an even first half.

In the second half, the Sudwerk defense clamped down and kept DFC off the scoreboard thanks to several spectacular saves by Debbie Daniels and strong performances by defenders Fausto Morales, Max Simmons and Kyle Monhollen.

Meanwhile, the Sudwerk offense, led by Jagdeo and Kristina Klaas, continuously stretched the blue-and-white with its speed and wing play.

The game also saw the return of veteran Adam Bauer, who took the field for Sudwerk for the first time in 18 months. In a nifty move late in the game, Bauer spun his defender in the box and launched a blistering shot that DFCs goalie did well to stop.

Awesome game everyone! Next match is 7 p.m.,Wed against Penarol SC. Hope to see you all there. Prost! ##
