Sluggish 2nd Half Costs Sudwerk

DAVIS, Calif., Aug. 16, 2007 (AP) -- FC Sudwerk surrendered four second-half goals to fall 6-2 to Purple Haze Thursday night.
The red-and-black had the better of play early on but settled for a 2-2 tie at the break after suffering an unlucky own goal. As Sudwerk tired in the second half, its midfield possession broke down and speedy Purple Haze strikers took advantage.

Sudwerk goals came from Adam Bauer, who scored from 10 yards out, and Mike Campbell, who delivered a perfect penalty kick into the left side netting of the goal after walk-on striker Paul was pulled down in the box.

Afterwards, players gathered at the Sudwerk Brewery, where keeper  Andrew LaMar vowed to return to the pitch after his Sept. 17 surgery in better shape than Adam or Mike. Said Adam: "No Way. I'll do whatever it takes -- you and J.C. will never be in better shape than me!" We'll see . . .

Next game is 7 p.m. Thursday against Oldenfowl. Prost! ##
