Fantastic Finish Earns Draw for FCS

DAVIS, Calif., July 25 (Reuters) -- Imer Cruz scored in the final minute Tuesday night to earn FC Sudwerk a dramatic 3-3 draw with Short Grass.

Imer's run through the yellow-shirted central defense and his wicked shot into the left side netting from 20 yards capped a ferocious rally by the red-and-black and gave Sudwerk its first point of the summer season.

Down a goal for most of the second half, Sudwerk stepped up its pressure and attacked in waves in the final 20 minutes. The red-and-black created countless scoring chances only to be denied by the woodwork, great goaltending or faulty finishing.

The spectacular conclusion seemed fitting for an entertaining game that got off to a quick start with both teams scoring within the first five minutes.

J.B. Rudell scored first on a breakaway and then Kara, a Grass Stains regular subbing for us, lobbed one beautifully into the net from 30 yards after the Short Grass goalie came out too far and got caught out of position. It was 2-2 at the break.

Sudwerk's next game is 7 p.m. Wed., Aug. 2 against CD Lobos. ##
