| Sudwerk Tops Eagles DAVIS, Calif., July 25 (Reuters) -- Balta Silva scored a hat trick for the second consecutive week to lead FC Sudwerk to its first victory of summer season Friday night. The red-and-black defeated Eagles 5-3, despite a furious, late rally that saw Eagles tally three goals in the last 15 minutes of the match. The win improved Sudwerk's summer season record to 1-2-0. Sudwerk started strong and once again benefitted from spectacular performances from its women players, who played without substitutes, and goalie Craig Dandurand. On offense, Silva was a constant threat and demonstrated great speed and ability. Silva recorded the first goal and hit the crossbar twice in the first half. Phil Pareas, who scored the red-and-black's other two goals, also had two shots carom off the crossbar. Pareas scored one early in the second half after a brilliant one-two with Silva that left Pareas alone on goal from six yards out. Sudwerk's defense remained solid until it wore down. The club's next game is 7 p.m. Friday against Cosmos. ## |
