| Renegade Rumbles Over FCS DAVIS, Calif., July 19, 2006 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk gave up five second-half goals on Wednesday to lose its second game of summer season, 6-2 to Renegade. Oh sure, I could focus on what went wrong in the second half, but why do that?! (I'm still trying to figure that out anyway.) What a stellar first half by the red-and-black. Renegade came out attacking full throttle, but Sudwerk weathered the storm as it endeavored to get organized. Once it did, the red-and-black took over and netted two outstanding goals to go up 2-0. The scoring announced the arrival of newcomer Megan Koren, who delivered a memorable assist on the first goal and scored the second one. Koren, on the right flank, put a 30-yard cross over the Renegade defense and onto the foot of Adam Bauer, who was racing toward the left side of Renegade's penalty box. Bauer brought the ball down on the run, took a touch and then beat the keeper through his legs with a blistering 10-yard shot. Que golazo! Minutes later, a Renegade defensive clearance went awry, and the ball caromed into the penalty area, where Koren pounced on it, slamming it into the net. Nice work! But, unfortunately, Renegade got one back in the final 10 seconds of the half -- I hate it when that happens -- and then poured it on in the second half as the red-and-black seemed to let up. Sudwerk labored to keep the ball and maintain possession after the break, and could produce only a few dangerous counterattacks. Game balls to Megan -- great job, welcome to the team! -- and Sudwerk keeper Craig Dandurand, who did everything humanly possible to limit Renegade's scoring. Next game is 9 p.m. Tuesday against Short Grass. ## |
