| Win Streak Stretches to 3 DAVIS, Calif., June 8 (AP) -- FC Sudwerk capitalized on a three-player advantage Sunday to down Davis Football Club 2-1. The victory, which did not come easily for the red-and-black despite its overwhelming dominance, extended the club's winning streak to three and boosted its season record to 4-0-2. "Our team has really come together this spring, and it has been wonderful to watch," said Ramal Werdna, FC Sudwerk president and CEO. "Now I'm looking forward to closing out the season strongly with our final two games." DFC began two players short and saw another red-carded less than 5 minutes into the game for arguing with the head referee. Nevertheless, DFC scored first on a penalty kick midway through the first half after Joncarlo Mark took down an attacker 1 yard inside the top of the box. The counterattack came after Sudwerk hammered DFC's goal, hitting the crossbar and the right post in the early going. In the second half, the red-and-black controlled most of the play and rallied to score two unanswered goals on marvelously taken shots. The first, from Joseph L'Amour, appeared to be a cross from the far right flank but curved into the goal's side netting. Leon Shahinian tallied the second, also from the right side, on a right-footed shot from 20 yards out that bent into the upper lefthand corner of the goal. Remarkably, weary DFC continued to counterattack right up to the end and nearly tied the game on a breakaway started when sweeper Andrew LaMar muffed a back pass to his keeper. "Davis Football Club is a quality team. They showed us that today," Werdna said. "They played with tremendous heart, and we had to work for this victory." "I'm proud of how we played, how we moved the ball around and utilized our greater numbers," Werdna added. "Our passing game is really clicking." ## |
