Sudwerk Romps to 8-2 Victory
in Summer Season Opener

DAVIS, Calif., June 23, 2009 (AP) -- David Jagdeo recorded a hat trick and J.B. Rudell scored a pair as FC Sudwerk rolled Tuesday night to an 8-2 victory over Oldenfowl.

The red-and-black's first game on Playfields Park's new synthetic surface proved to be entertaining and up tempo. Playfields opened its state-of-the-art soccer field, six months in the works, with a ceremony on Monday.

The perfectly flat pitch makes for a faster game, as passes on the ground move quickly and directly.

"It's wild," Jagdeo said of the turf. "You hit a high ball with heck-a spin and it just drops dead."

Meanwhile, while Sudwerk bombarded the Blues' goal, its defense displayed speed and resolve, limiting Oldenfowl to few quality goal-scoring chances.

The summer season continues Tuesday with a 9 p.m. match against Humboldt Grown. That ought to be interesting, because as we know, scoring on Debbie Daniels is always a challenge! ##
