| Sudwerk Falls 6-4, Despite Courageous Effort By Bryant Maxwell Andre Press Soccer Writer DAVIS, Calif., June 15 -- Delivering a gutty performance, FC Sudwerk attacked courageously on Friday, despite being a player short, and forced the Cosmos to work hard for a victory. The Cosmos led 4-2 at halftime and withstood Sudwerk's resilient counterattacking to come out on top 6-4. In the second half, the red-and-black hit the post several times and worked nice passing combinations through its midfield and with strikers Jeannine Henderson and Kevin Khalaf. "This is obviously one of the better games we've played this season," said Ramal Werdna, FC Sudwerk's president and CEO. "The team showed a lot of heart playing so well and with such energy while shorthanded." The game marked the triumphant return of standout defender David Raybould to the lineup. Raybould, out all spring with a strained ankle, offered stability and experience to Sudwerk's back line. The entire defensive corps played solidly, with Raybould, Patrick Chandler and John Sylvain all managing to limit the scoring opportunities for the Cosmos' speedy strikers. In addition, wingers Carrie Ives and Randi Field ran hard all night and marked well. On the offensive side, Khalaf continued his spring tear by scoring three more goals. Midfielder Andreas Agocs tallied Sudwerk's other goal, making good on one of his two breakaways. Sudwerk closes out the spring season with rematches against two teams it played early in the season. Sudwerk faces Amula at 9 p.m. on Friday and Purple Haze at 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 27. ## |
