| Hard-fought draw for FCS
DAVIS, Calif., May 22 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk earned a 3-3 draw with Humboldt Grown on Sunday, after delivering a stellar effort in 90-degree heat. The red-and-black rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead at the break, thanks to terrific goals by J.C. Mark and Mel Meyer, and an own goal by Humboldt Grown. But despite passing well and playing solid defense, FC Sudwerk struggled to hold on to the lead as Humboldt Grown used its deeper bench to fuel attack after attack in the second half. Sudwerk had its chances, too, with the best coming from J.B. Rudell, who dribbled around an out-of-position keeper and missed a wide-angle 20-yard shot on an open net. Sudwerk found itself with only one sub in the second half, after three players suffered injuries, the most serious being Mark, who was sidelined after hurting his knee. At the final whistle, both teams slumped to the turf in exhaustion. "This was truly an outstanding effort," said Juan Carlos, FC Sudwerk's president and CEO. "Everyone gave 110 percent, and it's just unlucky we didn't come away with a victory." Sudwerk's next game is 10 a.m. June 5. ## |
