| Roster Set for Spring DAVIS, Calif., April 4 (AP) -- FC Sudwerk's spring roster will include a mix of club veterans and newly acquired international superstars, team officials announced on Friday. The club opens its seventh season on Sunday with a league match against The Green Door at 4 p.m. It will be the first game for the red-and-black in DARSL's Sunday division. "I am thrilled with the makeup of this team," said Ramal Werdna, the president and CEO of FC Sudwerk. "I welcome our move to Sundays, and I am convinced this is our best team ever." FC Sudwerk played in the weeknight division last year but transferred to the weekend division this spring to ease scheduling conflicts and boost attendance. Star playmaker Andreas Agocs, who has been with the club since its inception, will return to the lineup as will long-injured Captain Andrew LaMar, who has recovered from knee surgery and will attempt to bolster the red-and-black's back line. Also returning are standout sweeper Patrick Chandler, goalkeeper Chris Lief and defenders Joe Cardoza, Joncarlo Mark and Renae Wurschmidt. In midfield, the energetic Randi Field and skillful Leon Shahinian are back. In addition to the nine returning players, Sudwerk will feature nine newcomers acquired from international superclubs in the offseason. They include goal-scoring phenom David Rubio, from AS Roma; midfielder and striker Adam Bauer, from FC Nuremberg; midfielder Donn Cox from Birmingham City; and striker Phil Pareas from FC Barcelona. On defense, Sudwerk picked up Phuong "Phu" Nguyen from the Los Angeles Galaxy and goalie Craig Dandurand from Glasgow Rangers. Rounding out the co-ed squad, the red-and-black also recruited teen sensations midfielder Kathleen Cardoza and defender Julia Sway from the U.S. Olympic development program. The red-and-black completed its roster with midfielder Amy Toy, from WUSA's San Diego Spirit. ## |
