Web Site Rocks Into 2nd Year
DAVIS, Calif., April 3 (Reuters) -- Victory, defeat and the murky world in between.
They've all been reported on by FC Sudwerk's award-winning Web site, FCSudwerk.com, which turned 1 year old on Thursday.
"The Web has distinguished itself as more than a mouthpiece for the club," said Ramal Werdna, president and CEO of FC Sudwerk. "It's a thoughtful voice wiling to probe the underbelly of the soccer world."
The site's designer and creator, Andrew LaMar, said the Web site has exceeded his expectations. The home page has experienced 3,000 hits in its first year, although LaMar acknowledged that 2,993 of those came from himself.
"O.K., I have no life," LaMar said.
Like nearly everything else having to do with FC Sudwerk, the Web site was a simple idea that mushroomed out of control, LaMar said. It started out as a place to post the schedule but quickly become something more.
Ever since, the site has parodied the major aspects of professional soccer, mimmicking controversies on everything from players' contracts to club finances. And, it has touted its club, FC Sudwerk, with unbridled enthusiasm.
"I think it's clear, we fit right in to the world of soccer," LaMar said.
