Rains Delay Season,
As Practices Start

DAVIS, Calif, April 10 -- The kickoff to DARSL's spring season has been pushed back until the first week of May due to wet field conditions, league officials announced Monday night.

"As for the start of the season, although it's spring, the weather apparently didn't get the memo," President Debbie Daniels told teams in an e-mail. "With the continious rain, the fields need at least 2 weeks to dry and set before we can use them. So, right now the start date for DARSL is delayed until the week of May 3rd."

O.K. Sudwerk players, that gives you two more weeks to get in shape!

Meanwhile, the red-and-black began spring training with four hardy souls on Saturday playing an intense, 90-minute game of two-on-two that left everyone participating sore the following day. (Ay Carramba!)

As part of the buildup to spring season, which was scheduled to start April 23, the club is holding weekly practices at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sandy Motley Field.

Juan Carlos, club president and CEO, is cracking the whip.

"We need to get some practices in if we're going to have a decent season. So, I hope to see everyone out there on Saturday," he said.
