Red Crashes, Black Blasts

DAVIS, Calif., March 7 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk's Red team suffered its first defeat of the season Sunday, falling 8-5 to a determined and speedy Humboldt Grown B side.

But while Red saw its dream of going unbeaten shatter, Sudwerk's Black squad rolled to its biggest victory of the season with a 14-4 drubbing of Oldenfowl.

"Congratulations to Red for an incredible run," said Ramal Werdna, the president and CEO of FC Sudwerk. "Red deserves loud applause for its outstanding effort all winter long."

With the loss, Red dropped to 7-1-1. Regardless of the outcome of next Sunday's game, Red will finish the season with the best record ever achieved by an FC Sudwerk club.

Meanwhile, Black dominated Oldenfowl start to finish. The most spectacular goal of the game came from Melody Meyer, who headed home a ball tossed downfield to her by goalie Joe Cardoza. Black improved to 5-4.

The two clubs wrap up the indoor season Sunday, with Black facing off against Humboldt Grown B at 1 p.m. and Red vs. Oldenfowl at 2 p.m.  ##
