Red, Black Hang Tough

DAVIS, Calif., Feb. 15 (AP) -- FC Sudwerk's two indoor teams continued their remarkable seasons Sunday by grinding out two more victories.

Red topped stubborn Stone/Monkeys 8-4 and Black slipped by Humboldt Grown A 12-11. Red's record remained perfect at 6-0, and Black improved to 4-2.

"What a great winter this has been," said Ramal Werdna, president and CEO of FC Sudwerk. "Everyone has played hard, and the good results are a reflection of that."

For Red, goalie J.C. Mark turned in another fine game while Kristine demonstated impressive endurance, playing the entire match after Jo Anne Bennett suffered a neck injury early in the first half.

Meanwhile, Black survived a highly competitive contest that was tied at 5 at halftime.  J.B. Rudell powered Black into the lead and the club's weary defense managed to hang on.

This Sunday, Red faces Short Grass at 2 p.m. and Black encounters Stone/Monkeys at 1 p.m. ##
