| Andre Press Sports Ticker Sudwerk Spanks Big Pern's Posse By Bryant Maxwell AP Soccer Writer DAVIS, Calif., Feb. 13 -- FC Sudwerk bounced back from last week's disappointment by posting an impressive 5-0 victory over Big Pern's Posse on Tuesday night. Sudwerk, which dominated the game start to finish, received three goals from striker Bruce Berry and two from midfielder Andreas Agocs. On defense, the red-and-black was rock solid, leaving little work for goalie Chris Lief, who recorded his fourth career shutout. "There's no doubt that's the best we've played this season," said Ramal Werdna, the club's president and CEO. "I'm confident we can keep building momentum as we head toward the playoffs." The return to the lineup of two key players helped spark Sudwerk, which improved its winter season record to 3-2-0 and moved into third place. Berry, out for two weeks with a sore hamstring, ignited the red-and-black's offensive attack with surging runs down the left flank and deft, one-two passing. Defender Dave Raybould, who was forced to miss last week, added skill and confidence to Sudwerk's back line. Raybould and Berry combined for the evening's most elegant goal, scored just before the end of the first half. Raybould sent a right-footed cross from midfield to near the six-yard line, where Berry headed home a shot from the left side of the goal. That gave Sudwerk a 2-0 lead at the break, and the game was never in doubt after. "All in all, everyone played just great," Werdna said. "Most importantly, we attacked aggressively and passed well." Sudwerk's tally could well have been higher, as Agocs hit the left post on one shot and Raybould caught the cross-bar on another. Defender Andrew LaMar and midfielder Armando Murrieta, both recovering from knee injuries, did not play but are expected back for next week's match. In other league action Tuesday night, Woodland beat Julie's Coeds 7-3 to remain in second place. Davis United won by forfeit 1-0 over River Plate. Next week, Sudwerk is set to face Julie's Coeds, with kickoff scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ## |
