2007 Concludes with Spirited Match,
un Golazo . . . and Cupcakes!

DAVIS, Calif., Nov. 27., 2007 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk capped a rocky fall season with a 4-2 loss to Arsenal on the frigid Tuesday night after Thanksgiving.

The outcome of the balanced, competitive match remained in doubt until a late insurance goal sealed victory for Arsenal. Sudwerk, wearing its away white shirts, returned to its form of earlier this year, contr- olling possession and attacking with precision passing that exploited the flanks in the early going.

Scott Daugherty scored un golazo in the first half after running onto a perfectly lobbed pass down the right sideline executed by Alex Park. Daugherty took a touch and fired a laser-like cross that caromed into the goal off the left post.

James Engle delivered the red-and-black's second goal after half time by latching onto a through ball by Phil Pareas and beating the Arsenal keeper one on one from 12 yards out.

The evening also saw DARSL stalwarts Park and Debbie Daniels, in goal for Sudwerk, leave the game with knee injuries. Daniels slammed her right leg into the goal post on a diving save and Park aggravated an existing injury.

Culien Ortiz celebrated the end of the 2007 season, which featured her current club playing her former club, by bringing cupcakes for all players and referees. Now that's good sportsmanship!

FC Sudwerk will take a one-month break and return to action in January 2008 for the winter indoor season. Until then, have a great holiday season. Prost! ##
