Gutsy Effort Is Just Short

DAVIS, Calif., Nov. 16 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk rounded out fall season Sunday with a 2-1 loss to Humboldt Grown, after delivering another gritty performance.

The red-and-black rallied from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game late in the first half on a goal from Andreas Agocs, who tapped home a rebound off a nicely taken free kick by Leon Shahinian.

Sudwerk found its groove in the second half, applying steady pressure and creating scoring chances. Humboldt Grown withstood the challenge, however, and scored off a breakaway to seal the victory.

As a result, Humboldt Grown won this year's series with Sudwerk, taking two of the four matches the clubs played in 2003. Earlier this season, the teams drew 1-1 and in summer Sudwerk defeated Humboldt Grown 3-2.

Sudwerk will take a two-month break before resuming play in DARSL's winter indoor season at the Davis Athletic Club. ##
